How to go to Banaue, Sagada and Batad by public transportation

About trip to Ifugao

  • You have to allow enough days for trip to Ifugao because public transportation is unstable.
  • The timetable below is subject to change.
  • The most important tip is to ask the locals. All Phillipinos speak perfect English.
  • There are not so much information on the internet about Ifugao trip, but you do not have to worry about so much because the locals are very willing to help you.

(Bohol -> Clark airport) by Cebu pacific

Clark airport (CRK) -> Dau Bus terminal (people call it DAU)

There is jeepney running between CRK and DAU. They departed CRK when all seats were occupied. And I think this route is running more than every half an hour, so you do not have to worry about time table.

Dau Bus terminal -> Baguio

After getting off jeepney at DAU bus terminal, you have to find a bus going to Baguio. There are about 10 companies' office at DAU, so you have to ask the locals which company is running bus to Baguio. There are many vendors here so you can have some snack.

When I visited there, this red bus company (sorry I forgot the name) was only running bus between Manila -> DAU -> Baguio route. Since the origin of the buses is Manila, the departure time depends on traffic jam. So I had to wait for 2 hours here.

Baguio -> Sagada

When I arrived at Baguio, it was almost midnight, so I called a taxi by Grab and headed to the hostel. In Baguio, I went to some places. My favorite among them is Baguio City Public Market.

After staying at Baguio for one night, I headed to the bus ticket office. And I went to the bus station. There were 3 buses / day to Sagada, and I took the final one (depart around 1 PM?). There were many sandslides on the way to Sagada. It was almost 10 PM when I arrived at Sagada, and there were no lights on the street. It was so dark. And I had to walk to the hostel for 15 minutes. Very scary.

I joined a tour to Sagada coffins.

Sagada -> Bontoc

From Sagada to Batad, I had to stop at Banaue and Bontoc. I took the 2 PM jeepney.

Bontoc -> Banaue

If you tell the jeepney driver from Sagada that you are going to Batad, the driver drop you off in front of van garage. If you cannot find the van driver, you have to ask the local. There is no ticket office or sign. You just have to ask the local.

And when the seats are full, the van departs, but if you negotiate with the driver and pay extra, you can go to Banaue.

Banaue -> Batad

If you tell the van driver that you want to go to Batad, the driver will introduce you a tricycle driver. The price range is about PHP 300-500 one way. There is one jeepney running this route, but I missed the departure time (3 PM). When you get off the tricycle or jeepney, you will have to walk for 20 mins since there is no road for vehicles.

I stayed at Batad only for one night, but I should have stayed there longer. It was so beautiful.

Batad -> Banaue

There is only one jeepney per day. The departure time is 9 AM, but actual departure was 9:45 AM because there were not so many passengers. You can ride on the roof of the jeepney, but becareful of trees.

Banaue -> Baguio

There is only one bus running this route per day, and it departs Banaue at night and arrive at Baguio around 3:30 AM(by Ohayami bus). This was not comfortable for me, so I took a shared van, which was cheaper than Ohayami bus. The van driver drove crazy fast. You can buy the van ticket here. I think they are running the van  every hour.
